About a week a ago a car struck the "Stop for pedestrians in crosswalks" sign and it bounced to the side of the road, where it remains. The signs, while they are trying to accomplish a legitimate end," seem to merely prove to be an obstacle in the narrow lanes, even for cars who travel at a reasonable speed (25 mph or less) on Olive Street and also stop for pedestrians. Cars who do not travel at a reasonable speed are content to do so, narrowly missing or, in the case of the sign above, hitting the signs and driving on without reducing speed. A speed bump would be the optimum and perhaps only solution to speeding on these streets.
I posted something very similar to this regarding the pedestrian sign missing by the Comcast building. The sign is still missing. However, DOT left this link for a complete street application: http://www.cityofnewhaven.com/Engineering/completestreets.asp I think a speed bump is probably the best option for now. If you fill out an application for this (and maybe others) then perhaps something will get done since there will be two applications for changes on this street.
I repaired the sign today and put it back. However, as everyone knows, this is basically ignored and Olive Street is a dangerous speedway. Speedbumps are needed ASAP.
We are closing this issue as we believe it has been addressed. If it remains a problem, please create a new SCF request outlining the current details of the persisting issue. Thank you for your assistance in this matter.

Thanks, Brandon, for doing what the city that I pay HIGH taxes to, would not or could not do.
And New Haven wonders why people leave in droves. If it's not the crime it's the fact that we have to take care of the city ourselves.
